About Thaddeus

Thaddeus Cheong, beloved son of Angie and George Cheong and wonderful older brother of Thomas Cheong, was born on 24 March 1990. Though Thad, as we fondly called him, was with us for a short 17 years, he will always remain dearly in our hearts.

Thad was always a determined young man. Whilst he did relatively well academically, Thad will always be remembered for being a respectful and filial person. All our relatives and friends remember him as someone who would respectfully address the elders with a wide smile. He would on his own initiative reach out to friends who needed help, especially in Mathematics.

A genuine love for the distance

His love for sports, specifically triathlon, was exceptional. He would prepare well for any sporting event and no matter the outcome, Thad would take it in his stride and he would be more determined to do an even better job at the next race. He took great care of his bicycle, his shoes, his race suits and he enjoyed all his races whether they were in Singapore or overseas.

Sadly, it was this love that took him away from us. His last race on 24 June 2007 was that of the qualifying time trials for the 2007 SEA Games. He finished that race in a personal best time of 2 hours 9min, but collapsed at the finish line.

We will always remember that dreadful day, when our son, our brother left us.

Time Immemorial

it has been nearly 10 years and while time has eased the pain, it has been very difficult for us. We have accepted that Thad left us, as he has completed his life’s work in 17 short years. We hope that this website dedicated to Thad and his life’s story, photos and news article will keep his memory alive for many of you.

God bless you Thad! Till we meet in heaven again!
