On Sunday 18 June, we were greatly touched to see so many of you join us for Thad’s 10th memorial run. Your presence shows your love for Thaddeus, remembering him till this day after 10 years as well as your unwavering support to us, his parents. We are very grateful to you all.
A prayer for Thaddeus by Fr John Bosco was read by our friend Paul Rodrigues:
10 years have come and gone, and God has taken you, Thaddeus, to your rest.
After running your race at your best, we are comforted to know that you are with God and all of the rest.
And so today, as we gather to remember Thaddeus, son, brother, relative and friend, we ask you Lord to continue to bless all of us and give us the strength and courage to run our race in life.
Never bitter for what we have lost nor in regret of the past, but always in the sure and certain hope of the eternal kingdom where you will bring us all together as one.
We also ask our dearest Mother Mary to continue to pray and intercede for us always….
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
And we make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
For the first time in 10 years, we thanked 9 significant people who have participated in all 10 runs since 2008 – Betty Wee, Felipe Goh, Julian Foo, Francis Claudius, Paul Rodrigues, Lai Pek, Chung Hwa, Mr and Mrs Chua.
Thad’s ex-RJC cross country runners continue to join us for Thad’s memorial runs. Their close friendship with Thad till this day touch us immensely. Their presence always brings us joy. They have certainly maintained their fitness level all these years judging from their speed and the time they took to finish the 5 km run.
Also for the first time in 10 years, since we knew that Thad would have liked to help in whatever way he could, we decided to raise funds for HCA Hospice Care on this 10th anniversary. HCA Hospice Care is a charity that provides home care for patients with life limiting illnesses at no charge. We managed to raise $5833 from friends and relatives who have been so supportive. A big thanks for your generosity.
Finally, we would like to thank one special person. He is the Archbishop Emeritus of Kuching, His Grace John Ha. His Grace was conducting a retreat in Singapore and took precious time off to specially attend this event. 10 years ago, Archbishop did the funeral Mass for Thad while on a visit to Singapore.
Ever since, he has been a great spiritual supporter and friend to Angie, Thomas and I.
Thank you everyone for your love! I’m sure everyone enjoyed the run, jog or stroll and at the same time catching up with friends under the unusually cool afternoon weather! We look forward to seeing you again next year!
